At Hollywood Senior Multipurpose Center (HSMPC) more than 10,000 seniors enjoy a variety of recreational and educational programs in a nurturing, enriching environment. There are also support services for those seniors who are homebound or less independent.
Seven congregate meal sites have hot nutritious meals for the senior community, while the Home Delivered Meal Program delivers nourishing midday meals to those who are not able to leave their homes. Computer or yoga and acting classes, health seminars and a travel club are among many activities that are offered. Weekly bridge games at the Over 50 Club have a loyal following of seniors who have been attending for many years. Transportation is available for medical, dental or other necessary appointments, and in-home support services from legal information to personal care, keeps seniors actively engaged in different aspects of their lives.
For less independent seniors, there is the Adult Day Services program. For those affected by Alzheimer's disease or dementia, there is expert day care that often prevents the onset of more severe symptoms. Caregiver support groups are also offered. A new Adult Day program provides respite for caregivers and days of structured supervised activities for frail elderly.
Each October, a Health Fair is held where available flu shots and screening tests help seniors stay healthy.
